COVID SUPPORT SERIES: Sleep Expert Alanna McGinn

I had the opportunity to chat with sleep expert Alanna McGinn about maintaining our sleep health during the Covid-19 pandemic. Here are a few of her amazing tips.

AUDIT YOUR SLEEP ENVIRONMENT: This means taking the time to make sure your bedroom is clutter free and not causing you any anxiety. Remove anything that doesn't need to be around or on your bedside table - including technology! Alanna recommends taking your phone out of your room and using an alarm clock if needed.

MAINTAIN A DAILY ROUTINE:  Alanna recommends going to bed and waking up at the same time each day. This is helpful for the entire family to have a healthy sleep routine. You'll find it easier to get to sleep at night.

LIMIT YOUR CONSUMPTION: Limit your consumption of media and news throughout the day, especially before bed. Of course it's important to stay informed on the news of the day, but try to set a limit on the number of news sources you consume. Alanna also recommends taking away screens at least one hour before bedtime for the whole family.

Alanna is offering a FREE copy of her book This Baby Loves Sleep to all healthcare and essential workers. Send her an email with you (or your partners) occupation and her team will email it to you.

Find out more about Alanna at www.goodnightsleepsite.com and check out her podcast This Girl Loves Sleep. Alanna is an extremely sought after sleep expert who’s worked with some of my favourite imaginary mom friends including Whitney Port, Shenae Grimes, and Jessi Cruickshank.
